Fortaleza is especially famous for the production of handicraft and there are many places where you can browse around and buy anything you like at very convenient prices.
The largest and best-stocked of these places is the Central Market, located in Rua Conde d’Eu, with more than 600 stalls selling any kind of articles. The building was specifically designed to be a market: it has four floors connected with ramps and stairs.
In the first floor there are some self-service restaurants where you can stop to have lunch, or simply take a break from shopping. In the upper floors of Central Market talented artists set out their creations: leather, wood, glass, coconuts, sand and more are the raw materials they use to produce their handicrafts.
You can also find t-shirts, hammocks, clay sculptures, paintings, medicinal herbs, pillow lace, embroidery.

Aquiraz is a commune in the state of Cereá in Brazil. Founded in 1699 it was the first capital of Cereá before Fortaleza.
Among the most interesting religious monuments in Aquiraz is the Church of São José de Ribamar, built in the 18th century in the neoclassical and baroque style, the result of many changes and renovations over the years. In the interior there are a number of paintings representing scenes of Christianity, mainly made by the hand of natives.
There is also the São José de Ribamar Sacred Museum, containing more than 600 pieces dating back to the 17th century, such as silver objects, chandeliers and crosses.
As for the geography of the territory, Aquiraz is a multi-faceted city offering various opportunities of entertainment, like the splendid beaches of Porto das Dunas, Botoque, Prainha, Iguape, Barro Preto and many enchanting lakes of different sizes: Mato, Tapuio, Camará, Catú, Araças, Juçara e Batoque.

Arrived at its fifth edition, the National Festival of Music and Dance in Fortaleza is already one of the most popular events in Fortaleza.
The whole event focuses on local traditional music, art and culture: the very soul of Brazilian people.
This year two locations are going to host this event in Fortaleza, that will take place in November: the Centro Cultural Banco do Nordeste from the 3rd to 6th , and the Anfiteatro do Dragao do Mar on the 5th and 6th.
On the schedule are several rock concerts, as well as documentary films on rock movement in Maracanau.
The cost for a ticket valid all the days is R$ 40.00, (about € 16.00) or R$ 20.00 (about € 8.00) for one day only.

The Dança do coco is a distinctive Brazilian music genre and dance, originated among the African slaves who were brought to Brazil. Here their music came in contact and mixed with various local rhythms to finally originate the Dança do coco.
The sounds of the Coco resembles the Capoeira’s, another worldwide famous Brazilian dance. It consists in a kind of stomping and generally the performers wear wooden clogs to amplify this sound.
The musical instruments used to perform the Dança do coco music are: the triangle, surdo, pandeiro and ganzá, while the lyrics are often improvised, hence the word “coco” coming from “cabeça” that means “head”.
The Dança do coco is usually performed during Brazilian parties and national celebrations, like the famous Fortal Carnival, link and thanks to its catchy rhythm it wins everybody heart of all those who love the music.

The Estádio Plácido Aderaldo Castelo takes its name after its construction idealizer. Erected in 1973, it has soon become a major landmark of Fortaleza.
It has a seating capacity of over 60000 people and features a field of 110 x 75 metres.
It is the home stadium of two popular footbal clubs: Fortaleza Esporte Clube and Ceará Sporting Club.
In 2014 the Fifa World Cup is going to be held in Brazil and the Estádio Plácido Aderaldo Castelo is one of the stadiums that are going to host the matches. In anticipation of it, remodelling works will be taken, with regard to the whole structure, in order to achieve a seating capacity of 66700.
It is going to be the second time for Brazil to host the Fifa World Cup, record that also belongs to other four countries: Italy, France, Germany and Mexico.

Fortal is the name given to the Carnival that every year since 1991 takes place in the gorgeous city of Fortaleza.
The last week of July Fortal enlivens the streets of the city with celebrations that usually last four days, where locals and tourists alike enjoy the lively atmosphere to the rhythm of samba and axé music.
Fortal represents a wonderful occasion for tourists to come in contact with the most authentic Brazilian spirit, and to really have so much fun!
The hottest spot of the event is Avenida Beira Mar, where the majority of people head for, and where many dance sessions start at any hours of the day and night.

Fortaleza distinguishes itself by the quality of its numerous educational institutions, either public or private, of which the Federal University of Ceará (Federal University of Ceará) represents a landmark.
In fact, the Federal University of Ceará is one of the most important institutions among the many research centres and universities in Brazil.
It was established in 1955 under the Ministry of Education as a public University and does not charge tuition fee.
It is subdivided into three campi: the Campus do Porangabussu, that includes the Faculty of Medicine, the Campus do Benfica, comprising the Humanities, Law and Business schools, and the Campus do Pici, with programs in the Technology and Science areas.
